Disney launches Starverse for the IPL
Disney’s Starverse is launching in time for the 2023 Indian Premier League season, offering an enhanced digital experience for sports fans through second-screen engagement. Disney’s Star Head of Sports, Sanjog Gupta, announced the launch of the Starverse, an immersive 3D Indian Metaverse platform and ecosystem for sports fans. Starverse’s concept was proven last year during the Asia Cup and the ICC T20 World Cup, allowing users to enter the Starverse at scale.
Disney is also investing in the potential of augmented reality, virtual reality, and the Metaverse to bring their beloved characters to life. They recently released an AR short film called “Remembering” and are exploring ways to bring characters out of 2D screens and into the physical environment of the Metaverse.
Disney is creating content and building its world in the Metaverse by creating immersive experiences like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales, as well as developing Project Stardust which allows users to create and customise their worlds using digital currency.
Disney is utilising modern technology to create immersive experiences for its consumers, including interactive educational apps, original virtual reality content based on existing properties, and its world within the Metaverse. Through partnerships with other companies and developers, Disney can offer unique experiences that allow users to explore a galaxy far away, learn about wildlife and nature, and much more.
Disney has entered the Metaverse with many advantages, such as a vast library of intellectual properties, partnerships with other companies and developers, and access to new technologies; however, there are also some drawbacks, such as the cost of creating content, potential glitches or bugs, and potential issues with privacy and security. Despite these potential issues, Disney is likely to continue expanding into the Metaverse as they take full advantage of technological advances while ensuring user safety. Disney and Pixar’s Metaverse will aim to immerse users in an entire universe crafted by these teams that could both delight and engage us in new ways.
