Google AI Bard Blunders on Demo
Google has announced the release of its AI Chatbot Bard, a rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which is expected to become available to the public soon. The experimental conversational AI, powered by its LaMDA language model draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses and can help explain complex topics to users. Additionally, Google is using AI to improve its Search feature, allowing users to quickly understand complex topics and get a range of perspectives. However, Bard made a factual error in its first demo, stating that the James Webb Space Telescope took the first picture of a planet outside our solar system when in fact, it was taken in 2004.
The mistake proved costly, wiping 100 Billion off Google’s value. The potential of AI technology is dependent on its accuracy and reliability. If a Chatbot provides inaccurate information, it can harm the user experience and damage a company’s reputation. Experts believe that Bard’s incorrect response resulted from its limited training. The dataset should have included information about the James Webb Space Telescope. This lack of data resulted in Bard providing the wrong information.
This mistake highlights the importance of having accurate and up-to-date datasets when training an AI. OpenAI’s ChatGPT is also limited by the data it is exposed to. AI accuracy is only as good as the data they are trained with, GIGO. Even with a large amount of data, they are still inherently limited by the algorithms used to program them and may sometimes provide inaccurate responses or even behave unexpectedly.
Developers must continuously monitor the performance of their AI, constantly update its datasets and ensure that it can provide accurate and reliable information. Companies like Google and OpenAI continually improve their AI technologies to ensure they can provide reliable information and respond accurately to user queries. The reality is that AI Chatbots are just as capable of spreading false information as they provide reliable data. In the wrong hands, Chatbots can manipulate public opinion by giving incorrect information, either intentionally or unintentionally.

They provide a more engaging and immersive environment for users, as they can be programmed to respond to user queries and provide support services. For instance, Chatbots can be programmed to provide product recommendations, give creature and character advice, guide game mechanics, or even serve as virtual assistants that help with navigation. As AI technology advances, AI can autonomously decide accuracy and provide reliable and trustworthy information for users.
