Metaverse Art Week 2022 – The World is Made of Code
Decentraland’s third annual Metaverse Art Week themed “The World is Made of Code” is live in the Decentraland art districts from August 24-28. Code is the element of the virtual world just as patterns, sequences, and formulas form reality. Mathematics appears throughout nature in the seeds of a sunflower, the petals of a flower to spiral galaxies all conform to the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci sequence. The mathematical code embedded in nature has generated theories that we live in a digital simulation. Metaverse Art Week 2022 explores how the human spirit is hardwired to react emotionally to art inspired by the mathematical designs present in the natural world.
“Metaverse Art Week 2022 is coming at a pivotal moment for the larger adoption of Web3 technology and decisions about our digital reality. We believe that the future of the internet should be built by decentralized communities that do not seek to profit off of user data, imagination, or creativity. This year’s Art Week will be a love letter to what the next generation of artists are doing in the Metaverse.”
Sam Hamilton, Decentraland
The Metaverse is pushing the boundaries of digital art and redefining immersive design. Digital artists are shaping our experience in virtual worlds as the contemporary art world embraces Web3.0. Metaverse Art Week celebrates the emergence of A.I.-generated art alongside immersive art installations, performance and conceptual art productions, NFT exhibitions, panel talks, and more.

The event boasts world-renowned artists. Frida Kahlo’s family in collaboration with Ezel.Life is presenting the Frida Kahlo Family Red House. The project aims to uncover many untold stories and memories about Frida Kahlo’s challenges and triumphs that add depth to her extraordinary life as an artist. Sotheby’s will display a permanent collection. Artnet features performance artists, poets, and A.I. NFT marketplaces OpenSea, Rarible and SuperRare, presenting new web-based art projects.
This year’s Metaverse Art Week theme has been produced by curator David Cash through video and 3D sculptures from artists including Lady Gaga’s creative director Nicola Formichetti, iconic photographer Nick Knight, and Krista Kim. In association with House of Tang, international pop artist Burton Morris installed “Pop! Wall”, a 3D interactive art wall. The “Cash Labs Gallery” will exhibit pieces from emerging artists Damien Hirst, Justin Aversano, IX Shells, and Krista Kim. The event also supports community and social projects. The Ukrainian Meta History Museum of War aims to record the truth about the conflict in Ukraine using artistic language permanently recorded on the blockchain.
To participate, head over to Decentraland’s art neighbourhood, Soho Plaza (aka Art Plaza), which features an open-air museum with a gravity-defying sculpture garden and the Voltaire Art District for community-designed art, gallery exhibitions and panel talks.
