Doom Multiplayer is a free-to-play Metaverse game and is considered the first popularised FPS game, and when id Software launched it in 1993, it sparked a revolution in gaming. John Carmack open-sourced the original code in 1997, and since then, it has been ported to run on almost anything with a CPU. Cloudflare Workers recently introduced WebSocket support and improved Durable Objects to interface with WebSocket connections, allowing developers to create real-time, interactive applications on the Workers platform.
